Flora

Lineage boon

  • The game of titles: You gain a Defense bonus of C to any of the following Challenges against you:
    • Ki reading
    • Identity Challenges
    • Enchantments

How were you raised?

  • Among a wild crowd of other Floran children, terrorizing your neighborhood
  • Among the deep wood, your earliest friends the pixie and naiad
  • In Seln Florana, cheering for the soccer finals
  • Outside the Garden, tolerating the staid nature of the other Lineages

What do you think of the Rose Queens?

  • Did you wait for hours and hours to meet one as a child for a blessing?
  • Do you hear Kassandra in your dreams? See Liliana in the bloom of the flowers?
  • Do you resent Queen Astra and her distant rule? What of the bossy Aloran magistrates who keep the order?
  • Do you work to spread the Garden in their name, or are you content to allow it to flower in time?

And Auspice?

  • Did you consider Gardeners the reassuring normal or stick-in-the-mud boring?
  • Did you ever meet an ancient Dryad, nestled among the trees she set to blossom?
  • When you were little, did you play with the Firstpetals? How did it feel to realize that you had grown, but they remained children?
  • Do you want to meet the strange new Dawnsingers, or consider them a curiosity of the Garden?

Floran Arts

All Florans have access to the following Arts.

Luck be our Lady

Feels good to be lucky, doesn’t it?

  • Chakra (any)
  • Circle: 2
  • Requires: None
  • Effect: Once you have rolled Ki and before you tally the Result, you may choose to reroll 1 Ki with a face value of 1

Assured Misfortune

  • Boon
  • Circle: 2
  • Requires: None
  • Effect: When a foe successfully inflicts you with a Penalty, you may choose to Challenge the same element
    • Disaster: Double your own Penalty
    • Failure: No effect
    • Success: Apply the matching Penalty to the foe as well
    • Flourish: As success, and negate your Penalty. They can have that back, thank you!

Trick of the Light

  • Chakra (any)
    • Special: You must sync this Art to two Chakra of different elements
  • Circle: 3
  • Requires: Luck be our Lady
  • Effect: You may swap the Ki between these two elements. You must use all Ki in the combined pool before you can use a given Ki again

Trick of the Light example

This one’s a bit tricky!

Let’s say that you apply this Art to your Air (d6) and Fire (d10); you are in the Third Circle. Thus, you have 3d6 and 3d10 to work with.

  • You could face a Challenge of either Air or Fire with 2d6 from Air and 1d10 from Fire
  • For your next Challenge of either Air or Fire, you would need to use 1d6 from Air and 2d10 from Fire
  • Once you’ve used all the dice from both elements, you can change it up

This Art is excellent for matching dice to Penalties.

  • Consider a Penalty 5 against Fire.
  • A Penalty requires you to spend the entire dice to match it, even if you exceed its strength
  • By swapping in 1 Air (d6) you could negate that Penalty and reserve the d10 for use in your next Challenge

Another strength is in Boosts and Breaks.

  • When you receive a Boost for Air or Fire, you may choose which Ki to apply it to. You could get a d8 Air or a d12 Fire!
  • If you receive a Break, you can toss it against an already weak die to minimize its impact to preserve your stronger Ki

Of course, if things go poorly, you might end up with nothing but d6 dice for a critical challenge!

Save That for Later

  • Chakra (any)
  • Circle: 4
  • Requires: Trick of the Light
  • Effect: You may bank excess Result from Challenges in this element
    • For example, if you generated a Success with a Result of 17 and a Difficulty of 14, you would bank 3
    • You may not downgrade your Result to bank extra. With the example above, you could not bank 4 to take a Failure instead
    • Maximum banked value: Attribute for that element
    • You may spend up to C of the banked value to grant that much bonus to the Challenge at hand
    • If your Bane, you must pay a toll of C as well
    • Banked values reset to 0 at the end of every Scene

Gardenwrath

You shouldn’t have done that

  • Boon
  • Circle: 4
  • Requires: Assured Misfortune
  • Effect: When you take a Wound, immediately choose either:
    • Inflict a Penalty C on all foes in the Scene
    • Inflict a Penalty 2C on a single foe

Auspices

The Auspices of Flora each boast their own powers and drawbacks. Here we will omit the Crystal Swan and Rosethorn; these are considered Paths and listed in that section.

Gardener

The Generalist, suitable for any Garden need

The Gardeners are a balanced Auspice, focused on strength of mind and body.

Gardener Arts

Sleepless Watch

Patience is a virtue, after all

  • Boon
  • Circle: 2
  • Requires: None
  • Effect:
    • You may go extended periods of time without sleep. You need only a few hours of sleep a week.
    • You are immune to effects that would cause you to fall asleep against your will
    • Add +C to any Camp defense for your party; this does not stack for multiple Gardeners

Hale and Hearty Soil

Make sure to eat your vitamins

  • Boon
  • Circle: 2
  • Requires: None
  • Effect: Gain +1 Aura

Walking the Middle Path

  • Boon
    • Special: You may choose this Art up to 4 times
    • You may choose any one element no more than twice
  • Circle: 3
  • Requires: Hale and Hearty Soil
  • Effect: Choose an element and gain +1 to its Attribute

Root and Burrow

  • Boon
  • Circle: 4
  • Requires: Walking the Middle Path at least twice
  • Effect: You become immune to indirect forms of the Claim such as Traps or writings

Dryad

The Shaper, tied to the very earth

When you become a Dryad, you:

  • Gain +1 Prowess
  • Suffer -1 Drive

You embody the vigor of the Garden.

  • The Severity of any Condition you suffer decreases by 1 per day automatically.
  • This is in addition to any natural or medical healing you receive

Unfortunately, you are also weakened to Fire.

  • Any Challenge that deals damage to you using Fire deals +1 Damage

Dryad Arts

Photosynthesize

All Dryads can photosynthesize a bit. You can subsist entirely on it

  • Boon
  • Circle: 2
  • Requires: None
  • Effect: You no longer require sustenance beyond the dew of morning and a bit of sunlight
    • You may no longer consume meat; attempting to do so will make you sick

Greenstep

  • Chakra (Water)
  • Circle: 2
  • Requires: None
  • Effect: You may spend Speed to move through living greenery
    • The entry and exit points must be large enough for you to fit through (as if it was a window)
    • The route must connect through flowers, stems, vines, leaves, roots, or some other green path
    • You must exit during your movement
  • Examples of valid portals:
    • Trunk of a tree
    • Dense bundle of kelp
    • A living wood wall

What counts as living?

For the purposes of this system, we will treat greenery as dead as soon as it becomes separated from the support structure necessary for life and/or it suffers any damage. Examples of events that kill the plant:

  • A flower is cut from its stem
  • A leaf falls from its branch
  • A fire consumes a bush

Yes, we know that cellular processes continue for a little while. No, we don’t care.

Greenmind

A plant? Not very smart. Lots of plants? You’d be surprised.

  • Chakra (Earth)
  • Circle: 3
  • Requires: None
  • Effect: You may sync your senses with surrounding greenery and foliage.
    • Your awareness extends for Prowess meters in every direction where the greenery lives and connects (as with Greenpath)
    • When you do so, your Speed becomes zero until the start of your next turn; you may choose to continue or drop the effect at start of turn
    • Ignore invisibility
    • Any foe that is in or enters this area must Challenge your Air or be immediately revealed
    • At the start of your turn, if you continue the effect, you may choose one foe within the area to suffer Penalty C (does not stack)

Slumber of Rejuvenation

We shall live to see the seed become the oak

  • Boon
  • Circle: 3
  • Requires: Green Photosynthesize
  • Effect: You may spend all Downtimes in a season to enter a healing slumber
    • At its conclusion, if you were undisturbed for its duration, roll Cd10
    • Reduce your age by the Result, to a minimum of adolescence (about 16 years old)
    • This effect prolongs your life
  • Special:
    • Each time you use Slumber of Rejuvenation, it requires more time
    • The first time takes one season; the next two seasons; the next three; and so forth
    • There is no upper bound. The most ancient Dryads sleep for decades at a time

Slumber of Rejuvenation has an extra benefit when you slumber within your Hearth:

  • Choose a leaf reagent of your Circle or lower that does not include your Bane
  • While you slumber, that reagent flowers. When you wake, you or an ally may Harvest automatically with a Bonus Ki
  • On a Flourish, the reagent takes root and remains for future use
  • Thus a Dryad can slowly create a Garden of her own

Improved Greenstep

  • Chakra (Water)
  • Circle: 4
  • Requires: Greenstep
  • Effect: You may spend Speed to move through living greenery
    • The entry and exit points do not need to connect
    • You may enter and exit any greenery
    • The entry and exit points do not need to connect in any fashion
    • You must exit during your movement
    • This also improves the Greenmind
  • Examples of valid entry portals:
    • A single flower
    • A swaying bundle of grass
    • Scattered leaves

Firstpetal

The Dreamer, ever young

When you become a Firstpetal, you:

  • Gain +1 Charm
  • Suffer -1 Prowess

Firstpetals have both the stature and expectations of the young.

  • Your physical age may not advance beyond early adolescence; most Firstpetals appear between 8 and 12
  • You do not age in this Lineage; this does not extend your lifespan. You simply remain youthful until the final sleep arrives

You enjoy the protection of the Garden’s warm embrace

  • Add +1 to all defenses

Unfortunately, your offense is questionable.

  • You deal -1 Damage with all effects

Firstpetal Arts

Child of two Gardens

The Cycle of Rebirth

  • Boon
  • Circle: 4
  • Requires: Child of Two Gardens, Pixie Wings
  • Effect: When you reach your life’s end, you are born again
    • This effect replaces the Reincarnation option found in the Appendices
    • Tally up the Essence you have cultivated over your character’s journey. For every 3, choose 1 to persist through reincarnation
    • Choose up to 5 Arts of any Circle for your descendant to recall. Your descendant may use those Arts without purchase as soon as all other pre-requisites (such as Circle) are met. Path arts may still never be learned by any other Path
    • Your new character must be Floran but does not need to be a Firstpetal
    • Your descendant retains strong, specific memories of your life. As with the Reincarnation option, your descendant maintains an independent existence and personality. They may page through your memories much like reading a picture book.
    • When your descendant grows into a Blossom, they may spend the inherited Essence

  • Gain 1 Light Harmonies into either LightAir or LightWater, your choice

That brilliant voice soothes the very soul.

  • Once per Scene, you may spend 1 Water Charge to grant an ally 1d4 Aura

Yet that radiance shines through every obstacles, often inspiring the greed of those who wish to possess your beauty and talents

    • Your maximum Ki size for Challenges is d6, and you use the pixie’s Attributes
